Director, Energy Code Services (Remote)

The Director of Energy Code Services will have responsibility for leading a team of energy code and training specialists, supporting the design of offerings, achieving KPIs, and managing processes. The Director will also play a leading role in driving growth at PSD, in terms of new, expanded, and more efficiently delivered offerings. This position will report to the Vice President of Programs and will supervise a team including one or more senior managers, training and development managers, and energy code specialists. The energy codes team is responsible for developing training curricula, delivering presentations, creating compliance and enforcement assistance tools, and providing technical assistance across multiple states.  

Position background 

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, “building energy codes provide the most cost-effective tool to achieve sustained energy, cost, and GHG emissions savings in the built environment.” As such, the federal government has allocated $225 million over the next five years to support energy code implementation under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). Further, the Inflation Reduction Act directs the U.S. DOE to allocated $1 billion to support energy code adoption and implementation.  

PSD’s Energy Codes Services team provides training, technical support, analysis, and policy direction related to the development, adoption, and implementation of building energy codes. While we continue to deliver high-quality services for clients in our existing footprint, we seek to utilize new federal funding to help meet national, state, and local decarbonization and equity goals. 

What will you do? 

Client Program/Portfolio Oversight and Management: 

  • Monitoring the financial health of the business unit 
  • Short- and long-term forecasting  
  • P&L ownership and responsibility of all programs under the position’s direction 
  • Responsibility for identifying/tracking/achieving KPIs  
  • Responsibility for recommending/implementing changes to delivery strategy, staffing solution, and tools used in program delivery  
  • Ensuring PSD’s energy code training content and other support materials are high-quality with high levels of customer satisfaction 
  • Maintaining excellent relationships with current and prospective clients 
  • Developing innovative service offerings 

People Management and Leadership:

  • Direct people management and team leadership  
  • Overall Leadership of a program area

Business Unit Growth: 

  • Identify and strategize growth plans within our existing client base  
  • Lead role in formulating program design & budgeting for proposal responses
  • Streamline processes to maximize production and margin within business unit  

Need to Have:  

  • 6-10 years energy code related experience 
  • Proficiency in Building science 
  • Proficiency in the IECC and ASHRAE 90.1, stretch codes, and zero energy codes 
  • Understanding energy code development and adoption processes 
  • Presentation development and public speaking experience 
  • Strong networking skills 
  • Strong computer skills including fluency with the MS Office Suite 
  • Ability to lead a team of high performing professionals and managers  
  • Ability to manage relationships with diverse group of clients  

Nice to Have: 

  • Financial acumen in projecting, forecasting, and budgeting
  • Experience creating of long- and short-term strategies  
  • Ability to present and pitch ideas to clients, internal, and external stakeholders  

This is a remote position. Flexibility to come to a PSD office on an occasional basis is desired but not required.   

Physical Demands: Frequent use of the computer requiring periods of sitting and close audio-visual concentration. Physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations.

Work Environment: Field work is performed both outside and inside of buildings in varying weather conditions. Field work will include accessing attics, basements, crawlspaces, and other locations associated within the built environment. Office work is performed in an open and collaborative environment.
