Power House is a residential home energy rating company focusing on new construction in the western Massachusetts region. We are currently looking for an RESNET Certified HERS Rater to join our team.

Qualifications: 

  • RESNET HERS Rater or Field Inspector Certification is required.  Energy Star, BPI, and/or LEED certification is a plus 
  • Proficient in RESNET approved software (Ekotrope and/or REM Rate) and Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to builders and trades workers
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must have reliable and dependable transportation for field inspections.  Travel is required to various inspection sites for most projects.

Experience:

  • Two years of experience in either building diagnostics, air infiltration reduction, and/or building shell insulation
  • Knowledge of/experience in new home construction and building science
  • Experience in residential HVAC or other construction trades are a plus 

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing construction plans and documents: collecting and/or calculating the necessary inputs for completing home energy ratings using rating software (Ekotrope and/or REM Rate)
  • Diagnostic testing and documenting the performance of homes upon final inspection
  • Maintaining relationships with builders, architects, building owners and project managers
  • Managing schedules to meet appointments in the field

Physical Requirements:
Performing an inspection involves extensive navigation in and around homes in various stages of construction. Inspections sometimes require the consultant to enter confined spaces (e.g. residential attics, basements and crawl spaces) and to utilize scientific measurement equipment that weighs approximately 50 pounds.
Inspections will require the ability to climb ladders sometimes to heights of 25 feet. Therefore, an Inspector must possess some physical dexterity, endurance, and balance to safely and effectively accomplish this work.
