RESNET Hybrid HERS Rater Training - Fall 2026

October 5-16, 2026, EST and October 26-30, 2026, EST
Online Modules: Monday-Friday, 9AM-12PM & Wednesdays 1-4PM on Teams. Classroom/Field Practical: Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-5PM - Primarily in Worcester, MA

Please note that the last 3 days of this training will be in the field in Worcester, MA. Travel and lodging are not included in the registration fee.

The NEHERS Alliance is pleased to to offer four high-quality HERS Rater Trainings in the Northeast each year in contract with Performance Systems Development (PSD). This package has everything a student needs to prepare to become a HERS rater, including online and classroom components required for certification. HERS Rater Training is the first step toward rater certification. Learn more about the requirements for certification.

Our hybrid HERS Rater Training provides an Online Modules component, which includes building science theory, and an in-person Classroom/Field Practical component, which includes all of the hands-on practical training and testing necessary to prepare to pass the rater exams. The Fall 2026 training starts October 5th. The Early Bird Discount registration deadline is Monday, September 7th (save $200!) and the Final Registration deadline is Monday, September 21st, 2026.

Full training cost of $3495 includes:

  • The Online Modules and Classroom/Field Practical components
  • All three RESNET Exams - including the HERS Rater Exam ($525 value)

  • A one-year Associate Membership to the NEHERS Alliance ($60 value)

Online Modules Component:

  • Trainers: Performance Systems Development (PSD)
  • Dates: Weekdays from October 5-16, 2026
  • Times: Monday-Friday 9AM-12PM and Wednesdays 1-4PM (EST)

    • 36-hours of webinar instruction from the comfort of your home or office*
    • Live and recorded presentation options
    • Assignments and quizzes to help you master the material

*Please note: A minimum of 8 of 12 sessions must be attended live. Students are expected to keep up with the class and take initiative to get their questions answered if they miss any sessions. The sessions will be recorded, but the review of previous day's quiz and the class Q&A time will not be in the recording. In addition to the hours outlined above, students should budget time for up to 2 hours of homework per night. We also recommend having a second monitor for working on the modeling and taking the exams.

Office Hours:

  • Dates: October 19-23, 2026. There will be office hours during the one week break, times TBD. 

Classroom/Field Practical Component:

  • Trainers: Performance Systems Development (PSD)
  • Location: 138 Green Street, Suite 203 Worcester, MA 01604 
  • Dates: October 26-30, 2026, 8:30AM-5PM (EST)   
  • Schedule: Monday (Teams), Tuesday (travel/study), Wednesday-Friday (on site)
  • Students receive:
    • Hands-on learning of equipment usage with blower door and duct blaster
    • 2 of the 5 Probationary Ratings overseen by a RESNET certified Candidate Field Assessor (required by RESNET)
    • Preparation and proctoring for all three RESNET Exams

Additional Training Information:

  • You can purchase Residential Energy by John Krigger for $102.50 (plus shipping) when you register if you want a hard copy. This is the most common reference book on building science used to prepare for the class and as a reference for the open book exam.
  • Please note: The training material and recordings will only be available to students in the PSD Training Portal during the training and will only be available for download up until the student has received their HERS Rater Training certificate. Course materials will not be available for download after the training has ended. It is up to the student to ensure that they have downloaded everything they need for future use before the training is complete.
  • This course is pre-approved for 36 BPI credits.
  • For students taking the full training, there is no additional modeler training necessary.
  • Both online modules and classroom/field practical components are required for rater certification.

Grant Information:

This course has been approved by the Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund, which has funds available for employee training. PLEASE NOTE: Grant applications must be submitted 21 days in advance of the start of this training (Monday, September 14th, 2026). Online Option:

The NEHERS Alliance is now offering an online only option as a stand-alone component for anyone who wants to know about ratings but does not want to become a rater. The online only component costs $1999 and includes information about building science, energy modeling, and performance testing. This offer also includes an NEHERS Manual and a 1-year Associate Membership to the NEHERS Alliance but does NOT include simulation software or RESNET testing.
