ENERGY STAR Version 3.2/1.2 for CT, NJ & VT

Hi everyone!  This e-mail went out yesterday and we wanted to make sure everyone was aware, especially if you work in Connecticut, New Jersey or Vermont.  Those states will transition to ENERGY STAR version 3.2 (Single Family) and version 1.2 (Multi-family) as of 1/1/2024.  There is a link below to register for a webinar on 5/24 (1pm EST).

Dear ENERGY STAR Residential New Construction Partner,

To ensure that ENERGY STAR certified homes and apartments continue to provide at least 10 percent savings in states that adopt the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), EPA has developed National Version 3.2 of the ENERGY STAR Single-Family New Homes Program and Version 1.2 of the ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction Program. The two primary differences between these versions and their predecessors are a more aggressive performance target and more rigorous thermal backstop.

EPA is announcing a transition to these new program requirements in the following states that have recently adopted (or will soon be adopting) energy efficiency codes equivalent to, or more stringent than, the 2021 IECC.

Re: ENERGY STAR Version 3.2/1.2 for CT, NJ & VT

Update (5/22/23) :  EPA is delaying the implementation date until 1/1/2025.  Also, the webinar that was schedule for 5/24/23 at 1pm has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for another time.

Dear ENERGY STAR Residential New Construction Partner,

On April 26th, EPA announced a transition to National Version 3.2 of the ENERGY STAR Single-Family New Homes Program and Version 1.2 of the ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction Program in Connecticut, New Jersey, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington.

Based on additional stakeholder feedback, EPA believes it is appropriate to delay implementation of these new Versions one additional year to January 1, 2025.

9/28/23 Update :  MFNC Version 1.2 implementation timeline

Dear ENERGY STAR Residential New Construction Program Stakeholder,

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently issued Notice 2023-65 which contained guidance for taxpayers on the Section 45L New Energy Efficient Home Credit as amended by the Inflation Reduction Act. To better align with this guidance related to eligible ENERGY STAR program versions for the Section 45L New Energy Efficient Home Credit, EPA is adjusting the previously announced implementation timeline for Version 1.2 of the ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction (MFNC) Program Requirements in Connecticut, New Jersey, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington.
