Energy Consultant - Home Energy Rater (HERS) - Stephens and Company

We’re excited to have HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Services in our portfolio, and the following job description will add an important team member to our growing personnel.

Job Expectation: 

You will be expected to work independently in residential homes to implement blower doors, HVAC duct testing, and mechanical ventilation testing. You will be deeply engaged in the project management process. This includes routine customer service where you will coordinate with contractors and builders for inspection scheduling and reporting. The majority of this communication is done over the phone or through email. You will be handling an extensive amount of information about several different projects at once. A reliable organization routine is critical, as you will work closely with our HERS Raters to prepare documentation for the Nantucket Building Department. You will also be educated on our modeling software so that you can prepare and modify detailed building reports at various stages of the construction process.

Position Overview:

Consulting and Energy Management skills

  • Expertise in Energy Industry
  • Sales experience in energy-related services
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Certification in HERS rating is a plus
  • Interest in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred but not required
  • Experience with Microsoft suite (Excel; Word; Powerpoint)
  • Ability to create and edit PDF files from the Microsoft suite of software
  • Experience with Sketchup
  • Familiarity with Dropbox
  • Ability to understand and apply Building Science math and concepts (Ex. Square footage, volume, R and u-value calculations)
  • Use a Minneapolis Blower Door
  • Use a Minneapolis Duct Blaster
  • Assess and record air velocity and pressure readings in various delivery systems (hood vents; bath fans; supply and return registers for heating and cooling systems)
  • Write scopes of work for improvements to air sealing, insulation improvements
  • Ability to both take and catalog photographs: diagnostic testing requires a diligent routine of photo documentation
  • Translate photos and site inspection documentation to Ekotrope and Sketchup

Construction or Home Energy Performance experience is beneficial but not required.

Training and Certification by a RESNET Certified Training Provider is required and will be facilitated and paid for by Stephens and Company, Inc.  First certification will be as a Rater Field Inspector:  https://www.resnet.us/raters/rating-field-inspector/

Physical Requirements

Ability to carry 35 pounds, includes carrying diagnostic equipment and ladders. Throughout the inspection processes you will be expected to examine all areas of the building, in some instances this means that you will be expected to access and navigate tight crawl spaces or attic spaces.

Hours of Work

Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
